Odisha Economic Association

The Odisha Economic Association, formed in 1968 as Orissa Economics Association, was accorded the status of a learned registered society by the Government of Orissa under the Societies Registration Act, 1868 bearing the number 5358/1968-69 dated 27.04.1968. Consequent upon the change in the name of the state Orissa to Odisha the life members of OEA in its 52nd Annual General Body meeting resolved to change the name of the Association to Odisha Economic Association. It is one of the oldest regional academic associations in the country. The Association was founded in Ravenshaw College, Cuttack, by Professor Sadasiv Mishra (first President), and a dedicated team of eminent economists namely Dr. Debendra Chandra Mishra, Dr. Chakradhar Mishra, Dr. Kshetra Mohant Pattanaik, Shri Ghana Shyam Das, Dr. Baidyanath Misra (First Secretary), Dr. Bidyadhar Mishra and Shri Ranga Lal Agarwal. At present OEA has more than 770 individual life members and two institutional members.

Objectives :

The broad objectives of the Association are as follows:
i. To meet from time to time in order to discuss economic issues of contemporary interest.
ii. To impart necessary information and expertise to the teachers of economics in Odisha with a view to improving upon the methods and standards of teaching in economics.
iii. To stimulate research in the discipline of economics in the state.

Odisha Economic Journal


The OEA in the Past was publishing two issues of its mouthpiece titled “Odisha Economic Journal” one containing the Presidential address, papers , the Endowment, Memorial and Special Lectures, and the selected research papers presented in the Annual Conference and the other having papers on fundamental economic issues and current trends in the economy.

Golden Jubilee


The association celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1993 under the auspices of the Post-Graduate Department of Economics, Ravenshaw College, Cuttack where it was born in 1968 and is celebrating the Golden Jubilee during 10-11 February 2018 at NCDS.
